Election Commission offers fresh chance to excluded voters in Delhi, six states

The Election Commission has issued fresh directions to poll authorities across seven jurisdictions to rectify voter roll gaps identified during the preparation of Supplementary Inclusive Roll (SIR) draft lists. The order applies to Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana and Nagaland, where eligible citizens who were excluded from the draft rolls will now have an extended window to lodge their applications.

The move aims to ensure comprehensive voter registration and prevent disenfranchisement of eligible electors. Poll officials in the affected regions have been instructed to conduct outreach campaigns to inform potentially excluded voters about the opportunity to submit claims and objections during the designated period.

The Supplementary Inclusive Roll is a periodic update to electoral rolls that incorporates newly eligible voters and corrects existing omissions or errors. By providing this additional opportunity, the Election Commission seeks to strengthen the democratic process and ensure that all qualified citizens are included in the electoral register before upcoming elections.

Authorities have been directed to process applications expeditiously and complete the verification process within the stipulated timeframe to finalize the updated electoral rolls in these states and the national capital.
