The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a special summary revision of electoral rolls across 17 states as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity and accuracy of voter registers. The move aims to address gaps in existing voter lists and incorporate eligible new voters into the electoral database.
Under the directive, draft electoral rolls will be made public on November 12. Citizens will have until December 11 to file claims for inclusion, objections to existing entries, or requests for corrections to their details. This 29-day window is intended to provide adequate opportunity for voters to ensure their registration status is accurate and up-to-date.
The special summary revision process is a standard mechanism employed by the ECI to refresh voter rolls periodically. The exercise helps identify individuals who have recently become eligible to vote, those who may have shifted residence, and to remove names of deceased voters or those who no longer qualify to vote in their respective constituencies.
Citizens can submit their claims and objections either in person at their respective electoral registration offices or through designated online portals. The ECI has advised voters to verify their current enrollment status and take necessary steps during the prescribed period to avoid any complications during future electoral exercises.
