Election Commission to revise electoral rolls across 17 states and UTs
The Election Commission of India will undertake a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union territories, including several poll-bound regions. The exercise aims to ensure accuracy and currency of voter registration ahead of upcoming elections.
LSN India ·

The Election Commission of India has announced plans to conduct a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls across 17 states and Union territories in the coming period. The revision exercise will cover poll-bound states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, among others.
The Special Summary Revision is a statutory process designed to identify and correct discrepancies in electoral rolls, including duplicate entries, deceased voters and individuals who have relocated to other constituencies. The exercise allows for the addition of new voters who have become eligible since the last revision.
This initiative comes as several states prepare for assembly elections. The Commission has mandated the revision to maintain the integrity and accuracy of voter registration across the country. Regular revisions of electoral rolls are essential to ensure that all eligible citizens are registered and that the electoral process remains credible and transparent.
The Election Commission will coordinate with state authorities and district election officials to implement the revision process systematically. Voter participation and feedback during the SSR period are crucial, as citizens can file claims and objections regarding entries in the electoral rolls. The timeline and detailed procedures for the revision exercise will be communicated by the Commission in due course.
