Election Commission to set up voter enrolment camps across Jharkhand

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced plans to conduct enrolment camps at all polling stations across Jharkhand on October 10 as part of its Special Inclusive Registration (SIR) initiative for 2026. The camps will focus on expanding voter participation among eligible citizens who may have previously been unable to register.

These registration centres will prioritise vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and other marginalised communities who face barriers in accessing traditional enrolment procedures. By decentralising the registration process to individual polling stations, the ECI aims to maximise accessibility and reduce administrative hurdles for prospective voters.

The move is part of a broader effort by the election authority to strengthen the electoral register ahead of scheduled polling exercises. Officials have directed poll personnel to ensure adequate facilities and trained staff at each camp to assist voters throughout the registration process.

Jharkhand, a state with significant tribal and rural populations, has historically recorded voter enrolment gaps. The ECI's latest initiative seeks to bridge these disparities and ensure inclusive participation in the democratic process. District election officials have been instructed to conduct awareness campaigns in advance to inform eligible voters about the camp locations and registration procedures.
