Election watchdog names two ministries for repeated electoral law violations

Election monitoring body Bersih has flagged two federal ministries for frequently violating electoral regulations, signalling ongoing concerns about government conduct during polling periods.

The watchdog specifically named the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KKDW) as habitual transgressors. The designations underscore recurring patterns of misconduct that Bersih believes undermine the integrity of Malaysia's electoral process.

Beyond its focus on the two ministries, Bersih also criticised the government's Jualan Rahmah and Jualan Agro Madani programmes, which the electoral monitor contends may violate electoral codes. These subsidised sales initiatives have drawn scrutiny from observers concerned about their timing and potential influence on voter behaviour.

The allegations reflect broader tensions between the ruling government and election monitors over the boundaries between legitimate policy implementation and electoral misconduct. Bersih's findings add pressure on authorities to demonstrate compliance with electoral standards ahead of future polling days.
