Eleven exotic animals seized in Vikram gibbon case to be relocated

Authorities have initiated plans to relocate eleven exotic animals to Vandalur Zoo after they were seized from a farmhouse in connection with the recent case involving actor Vikram and illegally-held lar gibbons. The animals were discovered at a property belonging to S.K. Keshavanathan, who was identified as the owner of the primates featured in a video that sparked controversy earlier this year.

The seizure represents a significant operation by wildlife enforcement officials investigating the unauthorized possession of endangered species. Lar gibbons, native to Southeast Asia, are protected under international wildlife conservation agreements and Indian law, making their private ownership illegal without proper licenses and facilities.

Vandalur Zoo, officially known as Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai, has been identified as the appropriate facility to house the confiscated animals. The zoo's experienced staff and infrastructure are considered suitable for rehabilitating and caring for the rescued wildlife as investigations continue.

The case has renewed focus on the illegal exotic animal trade in India and the importance of enforcing wildlife protection regulations. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the animals' acquisition and possession.
