PUTRAJAYA, Aug 26 — Malaysia's Foreign Ministry said today that eleven Malaysians have gone out of contact following flash floods that struck Nepal, with the Embassy in Kathmandu coordinating efforts to trace their whereabouts.
The ministry received initial reports from travel agencies operating in the country indicating that the missing nationals were in affected areas when the floods occurred. Embassy officials have been in contact with local authorities and tourism operators to gather information on the individuals' locations and status.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Ministry urged Malaysian citizens currently in Nepal to exercise caution and remain in safe areas. Those with information on the missing Malaysians have been asked to contact the embassy or provide details to the ministry immediately.
The death toll from the flooding in Nepal has risen significantly, with authorities reporting multiple casualties across several districts. Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread damage to infrastructure and displaced thousands of residents throughout affected regions.
