Eleven Power wins parallel distribution licence for Gurugram, Nuh region

The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has granted a parallel distribution licence to Eleven Power for designated areas in Gurugram and Nuh, marking a significant step toward retail choice in the power sector. The licence permits the private operator to build and maintain its own distribution infrastructure while serving consumers who opt for alternative suppliers in these high-growth regions.

Parallel distribution licences represent a regulatory framework allowing multiple distributors to operate in the same geographical area, enabling end-consumers to select their electricity provider rather than relying on the incumbent state distributor. This model has been introduced to enhance competition and efficiency in India's electricity market.

Elevan Power's investment of Rs 4,717 crore will be channelled toward establishing a modern distribution network, including substations, transformers, and metering infrastructure across the licensed area. The company is targeting commencement of supply operations in 2027-28, coinciding with the completion of initial network development phases.

The opening of supply options to over 830,000 consumers in these regions is expected to foster competition and potentially lead to improved service quality and pricing efficiency. Gurugram and Nuh, experiencing rapid urbanisation and industrial growth, represent significant markets for alternative electricity distribution models in northern India.
