The young Philippine eagle was found dead in Sitio Panghaon, Barangay Guinalaban following the incident that occurred in the early morning hours. The bird bore burn-like markings consistent with electrocution, a leading cause of death for the country's national bird.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Gingoog City, operating under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Northern Mindanao office, has taken charge of the investigation. Authorities are working to determine the specific circumstances that led to the bird's contact with electrical sources in the rural area.

The Philippine eagle, scientifically known as Pithecophaga jefferyi, remains one of the world's rarest and most critically endangered birds of prey. Found only in the Philippines, the species faces multiple threats including habitat loss, hunting, and infrastructure-related accidents. Each death of the species represents a significant loss to the nation's biodiversity conservation efforts.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in protecting the iconic raptor across the archipelago. Environmental officials have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the investigation or any preventive measures that may be recommended for the area.
