Energy Department Braces for Undas Holiday Demand Surge

MANILA — The Department of Energy has activated heightened oversight of the country's power generation and fuel distribution networks in anticipation of elevated demand during the "Undas" holiday period.

The agency is coordinating with major electricity generation companies, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, and regional distribution utilities to ensure adequate supply meets the surge in consumption expected during the extended holiday break. The monitoring covers both conventional power sources and renewable energy facilities across the grid.

Undas, observed on November 1st, traditionally draws millions of Filipinos to provincial destinations to visit family tombs and cemeteries, creating peak demand for transportation fuels and domestic electricity use. The DOE emphasized that preliminary assessments indicate sufficient capacity to meet anticipated consumption levels throughout the holiday period.

Officials urged consumers to practice energy conservation measures during peak hours and reminded fuel retailers to maintain adequate stockpiles. The department said it would continue real-time monitoring through the holiday and stands ready to coordinate emergency measures if supply constraints emerge in specific regions.
