Energy stocks rally as global crude oil holds below $105 per barrel

Global crude oil benchmarks posted restrained gains on Monday, with Brent crude rising just 0.10 per cent to settle at $104.90 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, the US oil gauge, climbed 0.18 per cent to $96.63, continuing its steady trajectory amid broader market dynamics.

The subdued oil price movement proved supportive for India's crude-sensitive sectors. Downstream refining stocks benefited from the stable pricing environment, with HPCL emerging among the day's gainers. Airlines, particularly IndiGo, also extended their advance as moderate crude values continued to ease pressure on jet fuel costs—a significant operational expense for carriers.

The persistence of international crude below the $105-per-barrel level remained constructive for India's import-dependent energy economy. With crude accounting for a substantial share of India's oil import bill, prices in this range provide some relief to downstream businesses and the broader current account balance. Traders noted that the steady rather than volatile nature of crude movements was also encouraging portfolio flows into energy-linked equities.

Market participants will continue monitoring geopolitical developments and global supply-demand dynamics that could influence crude trajectories. For now, the consolidation below $105 Brent has provided a relative tailwind to oil-sensitive Indian stocks after recent bouts of volatility.
