MANILA — Heavy rainfall is expected to impact extensive areas of Luzon and the western portions of the Visayas region beginning early next week as the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, strengthens, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Saturday.

Weather specialist Daniel Villamil of PAGASA indicated during the agency's Saturday evening bulletin that the enhanced monsoon system will bring significant precipitation to affected regions. The intensified weather pattern poses potential risks from flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The state weather bureau urged residents and local government units in the affected zones to prepare contingency measures and remain alert for weather updates. Communities prone to flooding and those in upland areas are advised to exercise heightened caution during the period of enhanced monsoon activity.

Monitoring of the system continues as PAGASA issues regular updates on the extent and timing of the rainfall event. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather advisories and to heed guidance from local disaster risk reduction management offices.
