IPOH — Authorities are investigating a mass fish death incident in Sungai Perak, with the Department of Environment (DOE) leading efforts to establish what caused the deaths, a state executive councillor said today.
The DOE is currently gathering evidence from the affected river area and conducting sample-matching tests as part of its investigation, according to the councillor. Officials have not yet disclosed preliminary findings from the examination.
Mass fish deaths in rivers can result from multiple factors, including water pollution, chemical spills, changes in water quality, or oxygen depletion. The investigation will determine which factors, if any, contributed to the Sungai Perak incident.
The state government said it would provide updates on the investigation's progress as more information becomes available. The DOE has not indicated a timeline for completing its assessment.
