EPF Pension Limit Hike to ₹25,000 to Impact Take-Home Pay from October
The Employee Provident Fund Organisation has raised the pensionable salary ceiling to ₹25,000, making pension contributions mandatory for workers whose basic salary and dearness allowance combined reach this threshold. The new regulation will reduce take-home salaries for affected employees from October onwards.

The Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has revised its pension scheme parameters by increasing the pensionable salary limit to ₹25,000, a move that will expand the scope of mandatory pension deductions across the country.
Under the new guidelines, any employee whose basic salary and dearness allowance combined total up to ₹25,000 will now be required to contribute to the pension scheme. Previously, employees below this threshold were not mandatorily enrolled in the pension benefit structure.
The implementation of this revised rule from October means that a section of the workforce will see a reduction in their monthly take-home salary as pension contributions are deducted from their wages. Workers earning between the previous limit and ₹25,000 will be most directly affected by this change.
The EPFO's decision to raise the pensionable salary ceiling is aimed at expanding pension coverage and ensuring better retirement security for a larger section of the salaried workforce. However, the immediate impact on monthly salary packets has raised concerns among some employees who will experience lower disposable income following the rule's implementation.
Employees are advised to review their salary structures and understand the calculation methodology to assess the impact on their individual take-home compensation from the effective date in October.
