EPFO's new WhatsApp service faces technical glitches on launch
India's Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has rolled out a WhatsApp-based service allowing workers to check PF balances and transaction history remotely, but users are reporting OTP and error issues since the launch.

The EPFO has introduced a WhatsApp messaging service designed to give employees convenient access to their provident fund information from their mobile devices. Through the new service, workers can retrieve their current PF balance, digital passbooks, and details of their last five transactions without visiting offices or logging into web portals.
However, the rollout has been marked by technical difficulties. Several users have reported encountering one-time password (OTP) verification failures and application errors when attempting to access their account information through the platform. The issues have prompted complaints on social media, with multiple employees sharing their experiences of failed transaction attempts on the X platform.
The EPFO, which oversees provident fund accounts for millions of Indian workers in the organized sector, had positioned the WhatsApp integration as a step toward improving digital service accessibility. The platform was intended to streamline the process of accessing PF-related information, particularly for users in areas with limited internet infrastructure or those unfamiliar with traditional online portals.
The technical glitches underscore challenges that government digital initiatives sometimes face during their initial deployment phases. While the EPFO has not issued an official statement regarding the reported errors, the problems appear to be affecting a segment of the user base attempting to activate or use the service.
