Equity mutual fund schemes attracted net inflows of ₹38,306 crore during September, significantly outpacing the ₹29,329 crore recorded in the previous month, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India on Monday.
The month witnessed a notable geographic and category-wise distribution of inflows. Small-cap funds emerged as the strongest performer, attracting ₹9,039 crore in net inflows, followed closely by mid-cap schemes with ₹7,835 crore. Large-cap funds, by comparison, registered more modest inflows of ₹860 crore during the same period.
Industry analysts attribute the surge to sustained investor confidence in equity markets as a long-term wealth creation avenue. Market observers note that the strong inflows arrived during a period of market volatility, underscoring retail investors' conviction in equities despite near-term headwinds. Some analysts suggest that a portion of the inflows may have been redirected from debt and hybrid fund categories.
The data underscores the continued preference among Indian households for equity mutual funds as a core investment vehicle, even as broader market conditions remain uncertain. This trend reflects the retail investor base's evolving sophistication and willingness to explore higher-yielding investment categories.
