Ernakulam accounts for nearly half of Kerala's flu cases
Ernakulam district continues to bear the brunt of an influenza outbreak sweeping Kerala, with health authorities reporting a sharp spike in cases during the opening days of the month. The district has emerged as the epicenter of the viral illness, which has claimed five lives across the state.

Health officials in Kerala have raised concerns over the rapid spread of influenza, with Ernakulam district recording the highest burden of cases. Of the 607 confirmed influenza cases reported across Kerala in the first five days of the month, 274 were documented in Ernakulam alone, accounting for approximately 45 per cent of the state's total caseload.
The concentrated outbreak in Ernakulam has prompted health departments to intensify surveillance and containment measures in the district. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as cases continue to mount at a concerning pace, with five deaths attributed to the virus recorded across the state so far this month.
The surge in influenza cases underscores the need for enhanced public health vigilance and adherence to preventive measures. Health officials have advised residents to practice respiratory hygiene, seek prompt medical attention for flu symptoms, and maintain proper isolation protocols to check further transmission of the virus in the community.
