BAGUIO CITY — Soil erosion has compromised portions of Loacan National High School's grounds in Itogon, Benguet, causing structural damage to riprap and other protective installations around the campus. The deterioration has raised concerns about student and staff safety on the property.
Loacan Barangay Captain Franklin Almoza ordered the suspension of in-person classes at the institution on Tuesday, August 25, following an inspection that revealed the extent of the erosion damage. School authorities have yet to announce a timeline for the resumption of face-to-face learning activities.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges with soil stability in Benguet's upland communities, where erosion remains a recurring concern during the rainy season.
