ESIC Raises Funeral Assistance to ₹20,000 for Private Sector Workers

The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has announced an increase in funeral assistance benefits for insured workers in the private sector, raising the amount from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000. The enhanced benefit provides financial relief to families of ESIC-covered employees who pass away while employed.

The funeral assistance scheme is designed to help bereaved families manage end-of-life expenses during a period of financial vulnerability. The revision reflects the ESIC's commitment to expanding social security coverage for India's private sector workforce, which comprises a significant portion of the country's insured employees.

Eligible beneficiaries include the families of ESIC insured workers who are covered under the corporation's social security framework. The increased assistance amount aims to address rising costs associated with funeral rites and cremation expenses across different regions of the country.

The ESIC, which operates under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, continues to expand its benefit structure to provide comprehensive coverage for workers and their dependents. This move aligns with the government's broader objective of strengthening social protection mechanisms for the organized private sector workforce.
