Essar Ports emerged as the highest bidder in a global competitive tender to develop the Tuna Tekra terminal at Kandla port on India's western coast. The project carries a total cost of ₹2,276.06 crore, with Essar Ports investing ₹1,552.57 crore and Deendayal Port Authority contributing ₹723.49 crore.
The terminal will be developed under a 30-year build-operate-transfer concession agreement through a public-private partnership arrangement. The facility is designed to handle dry and other multipurpose cargo, addressing capacity constraints on India's western maritime corridor.
The proposed terminal will feature four berths, each measuring 300 metres in length, providing a total berth capacity of 1,200 metres. The facility aims to enhance India's port infrastructure as the country seeks to boost trade efficiency and accommodate growing cargo volumes along major shipping routes.
The project underscores Essar Ports' renewed focus on expanding its port operations portfolio. The development is expected to strengthen India's logistics infrastructure and support the country's ambitions to improve maritime connectivity and trade competitiveness in regional markets.
