Estonia accuses Russia of ordering arson attack on defence firm

Estonia's government has formally accused Russia of orchestrating an arson attack on Milrem Robotics, a defence manufacturer based in the Baltic nation. The fire occurred at the company's facility in August, prompting an investigation by Estonian law enforcement and security services.

Milrem Robotics specializes in producing unmanned ground vehicles that have been supplied to Ukrainian forces fighting the Russian invasion. The company has emerged as a key supplier of military equipment to Kyiv since Moscow's full-scale assault began in February 2022.

Tallinn's accusation represents an escalation in rhetoric between Estonia and Russia, reflecting broader concerns among NATO members about potential sabotage and hybrid warfare tactics. The Baltic nation, which shares a border with Russia and is a NATO member, has repeatedly warned of security threats emanating from Moscow.

Estonian authorities have not disclosed specific evidence linking Russia to the attack, though officials have characterized the incident as consistent with patterns of Russian interference observed in other European nations. The incident comes as Western countries have grown increasingly vigilant about protecting critical defence infrastructure and supply chains supporting Ukraine's war effort.
