MANILA — Senator Jinggoy Estrada is expected to personally attend Wednesday afternoon's bail hearing in his plunder case before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division, marking his first physical appearance at such proceedings in the matter, his office confirmed.
Estrada has previously participated in bail hearings remotely through videoconference. His decision to appear in person comes as the court continues to hear arguments related to his bail plea in the case.
The plunder case against Estrada stems from allegations concerning kickbacks that special prosecutors have linked to his involvement in controversial pork barrel fund distributions. The Sandiganbayan has been hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense regarding the senator's bail conditions.
Wednesday's hearing will include testimony from prosecution witness Bernardo, according to court schedules. The Fifth Division of the Sandiganbayan continues to review the bail petition as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
