Evidence contradicts Duterte's simple persona, says Diokno

Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno said Monday that prosecution evidence in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial reveals a more complex financial picture than her public image suggests. Bank records, tax documents, and financial reports paint a different narrative, according to the lawmaker.

MANILA — Prosecution witnesses and documentary evidence presented during Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment proceedings tell a story at odds with her self-presentation, according to Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno.

Diokno said the materials submitted by prosecutors—including bank records, tax filings, financial reports, and public documents—demonstrate that Duterte is not the straightforward figure she portrays herself to be. The assemblage of evidence, he noted, provides a numerical basis for reassessing the vice president's financial dealings and public persona.

"The numbers won't lie," Diokno said, emphasizing the significance of the documentary evidence presented in the Article II proceedings against Duterte. The impeachment complaint centers on allegations related to the vice president's financial disclosures and accountability.

The comments came as the impeachment trial continued to unfold, with prosecution presenting its case through multiple witnesses and corroborating documentation.
