Ex-BARMM lawmaker denies involvement in Laos drug shipment seizure

COTABATO CITY — Sultan Edrieza Hadji Nasser Rimbang, a former member of parliament representing the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), has denied allegations that he orchestrated a major drug trafficking operation involving a shipment from Laos that was intercepted by authorities.

In a video statement posted to social media Thursday evening, Rimbang categorically rejected claims by law enforcement officials that connected him to the failed narcotics consignment. The former legislator maintained his uninvolvement in the smuggling scheme, though specific details regarding the intercepted cargo remain under investigation.

The denial comes as Philippine authorities continue their probe into the drug shipment, which represented a significant attempt to move contraband through regional trafficking routes. Law enforcement has not yet released comprehensive details about the seizure or the investigation's scope.

Rimbang's statement marks the latest development in what investigators describe as a complex transnational drug trafficking network. Authorities have been intensifying efforts to dismantle smuggling operations moving illicit substances through Southeast Asian corridors into the Philippines.
