Ex-BFP Chief Denies P4-Million Bribery Charge in Sandiganbayan

MANILA — Fernandez appeared before the Sandiganbayan's Third Division on Friday for his arraignment on charges of accepting the P4-million bribe. The amount is alleged to be part of a larger P14.752-million "commitment" made by businesswoman Rosaverna Sangga to the former BFP official, purportedly connected to the bureau's procurement activities. The case represents one of several corruption allegations facing high-ranking government officials in the Philippines' ongoing anti-graft enforcement efforts. The Sandiganbayan, a specialized court handling crimes committed by public officials, will oversee the proceeding. Fernandez's plea of not guilty signals his intention to contest the charges before the court.
