Ex-Minister Weerasekera demands Rs. 100m from Kingsbury over CCTV footage

Through his legal representatives, Weerasekera has lodged a letter of demand against the five-star establishment, alleging that security footage from the hotel premises was edited and subsequently circulated on social media platforms without authorization. The former minister contends that such action constituted a serious breach of privacy and caused considerable damage to his public standing. According to the complaint, The Kingsbury hotel bears direct responsibility for the unauthorized release of the material. The demand letter formally notifies the hotel of the claim and sets out the basis for seeking monetary compensation. The matter underscores growing concerns regarding the protection of personal privacy and the misuse of surveillance footage, particularly when sensitive recordings are distributed through digital channels without proper consent or legal justification.
