MANILA — Former Pampanga Representative Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales declared his determination to prove his innocence before the Sandiganbayan as he posted P90,000 bail before the anti-graft court's Third Division on Tuesday.
Gonzales is facing three counts of graft in connection with the case being handled by the court division. His appearance marked his first major step in addressing the corruption allegations leveled against him.
"I will prove myself innocent," Gonzales said following his bail posting, signaling his intention to mount a vigorous defense throughout the legal proceedings.
The former lawmaker's case now moves forward in the Sandiganbayan, which specializes in handling high-profile corruption cases involving public officials. The court's Third Division will oversee the proceedings as evidence is presented and arguments are heard from both prosecution and defense.
