Ex-Presidential Secretary Bandara Remanded Until Late October

Sugeeshwara Bandara appeared before Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Monday as his detention was extended for an additional week. The remand order keeps Bandara in custody until October 28, continuing his detention in connection with ongoing investigations.

During the court hearing, Magistrate Amarasena read out a communication from the Judicial Service Commission, which determined that there were no sufficient reasons to transfer Bandara's case proceedings to a different court. The decision effectively keeps the matter within Fort Magistrate's Court's jurisdiction.

Bandara, who served as private secretary to former President Rajapaksa, has remained in custody since his arrest as part of what officials have described as investigations into allegations of misuse of state resources and related matters. The case continues to draw attention given Bandara's proximity to the former president during his administration.

The next court date is scheduled for October 28, when the investigating officers are expected to provide further updates on the status of the inquiry. Bandara's legal team has not issued any public statement regarding the extension of remand.
