Ex-Selangau MP Baru Bian loses bid to dismiss RM10m PKR lawsuit

The Kuching High Court dismissed Baru Bian's application to have the suit struck out, allowing PKR's legal action against him and five others to proceed. The party claims the defendants violated terms of a bond agreement entered into ahead of Malaysia's 14th general election in 2018. Bian, who represented the Selangau constituency as a Democratic Action Party member, was among the six individuals named in the civil suit seeking RM10 million in damages. The nature of the alleged breach relates to obligations undertaken in the bond signed prior to the election. With the court's decision, the case is expected to move forward to the substantive hearing stage, where the merits of PKR's claim will be examined. The development marks another chapter in the legal disputes arising from political agreements made during the lead-up to the 2018 polls, which saw significant shifts in Malaysia's political landscape.
