The 27-year-old man, whose identity is protected under Singapore law, pleaded guilty to charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor who had previously resided at the facility where he was employed as a youth worker. The victim was below the age of consent at the time of the offence.

During court proceedings, the District Court heard evidence of the breach of trust and duty of care that accompanied the abuse. The position of authority held by the accused over vulnerable young residents made the transgression particularly serious in the eyes of the court.

The sentencing judgment reflects Singapore's strict approach to child sexual abuse and breaches of trust by caregivers. The court took into account the vulnerability of the victim and the accused's position of responsibility when determining the custodial term.

The case reinforces ongoing scrutiny of safeguarding practices in youth care institutions across Singapore, where staff working with minors are subject to stringent vetting and conduct standards.
