Exco members should resign if they reject Tuanku Muhriz, says Loke

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has urged executive councillors in Perak to resign if they fail to recognise Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Sultan, arguing that their legitimacy stems from oaths taken before him.

Loke's remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in the state, with the DAP leader emphasising that those sworn into office before Tuanku Muhriz's installation in early August should respect the institution of the monarchy.

"If they no longer recognise the Sultan, they should step down from their positions," Loke stated, underscoring the constitutional obligations that bind state officials to the ruler.

The call reflects broader concerns about political stability in Perak, where questions regarding the recognition of state leadership have become increasingly contentious. Loke's position highlights the DAP's stance on maintaining institutional integrity and respect for constitutional monarchical processes in the state administration.

Tuanku Muhriz assumed his position as Sultan of Perak in early August, with all state office holders required to renew their pledges of loyalty to the new ruler in accordance with constitutional procedures.
