TUPI, South Cotabato — Thousands of residents across South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat experienced an extended power interruption Sunday as South Cotabato I Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO I) carried out preventive maintenance operations on its distribution network.
The day-long blackout affected multiple communities served by the cooperative, disrupting both residential and commercial activities. With temperatures rising during the outage, many residents opted to spend their day at nearby spring resorts and water facilities to escape the sweltering conditions.
SOCOTECO I had scheduled the maintenance work as part of routine grid upkeep to ensure system reliability and prevent future infrastructure failures. The cooperative has been a key electricity provider across the region, serving multiple municipalities in South Cotabato and neighboring Sultan Kudarat.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines coordinates power distribution activities across major portions of the archipelago. Sunday's scheduled maintenance underscores the ongoing infrastructure challenges facing regional power providers managing service to growing provincial populations.
