Law enforcement officials in Kerala have dismantled a cannabis trafficking operation after arresting two individuals accused of masquerading as a couple to avoid detection. The duo operated their illicit drug network from quarters housing migrant workers, using their assumed domestic arrangement as cover for their activities.
During a search of their residence, officials recovered approximately 4 kg of ganja stored in two separate packets. Police also seized Rs 1,19,600 in cash, which they believe represents proceeds from drug sales conducted over an undetermined period.
The operation highlights the evolving tactics employed by drug networks in South India, with traffickers increasingly exploiting migrant worker communities and their relatively transient nature to obscure criminal activity. The use of false identities and domestic cover is a common method employed to evade law enforcement scrutiny in densely populated residential areas.
Police have registered cases against both individuals under relevant narcotics legislation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the cannabis supply and identify other members of the distribution network, officials said.
