Falling acacia tree kills tricycle driver in Ilocos Sur

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — A 45-year-old tricycle driver was fatally crushed when an acacia tree fell on his vehicle in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur on Monday. The driver, a resident of Barangay Poblacion Sur, was resting inside his tricycle at the Innanus TODA parking area along Dakota Street when the tree collapsed at approximately 3 p.m.

The unexpected fall of the large tree resulted in the driver being pinned inside the vehicle. Rescue operations were mounted to extract the victim from the wreckage following the incident.

The exact cause of the tree's collapse has not been detailed, though falling trees remain a hazard in the Philippines during periods of strong winds or heavy weather. The incident highlights safety concerns at public parking areas and along roadways where large trees are present.
