Family brutality case in Kolkata over daughter's relationship

Kolkata police have arrested the parents and uncle of a young woman following an incident of mob violence in the Behala area that left three men stripped and paraded publicly through residential streets.

According to reports, family members allegedly confined a young man found with their daughter along with his friend in a locked room, where they subjected both to physical assault. The violence escalated when the young man's father was subsequently called to the location and also assaulted by the group.

The three victims were then allegedly stripped of their clothes and forced to walk through the neighbourhood. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over so-called "honour-based" violence in parts of India, where family members have taken extrajudicial action against individuals deemed to have brought shame upon the household.

Police have registered a case and apprehended the daughter's parents and her uncle in connection with the assault and public humiliation. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
