Family gang arrested for organised theft on trains across India

The Jhansi Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested seven relatives from Bhavnagar in Gujarat in connection with a coordinated theft operation targeting train passengers across multiple routes. The accused include three women who worked as part of the organised criminal network.

According to investigators, the gang operated by posing as ordinary travellers, gaining the trust of fellow passengers before systematically stealing from them during journeys. They primarily targeted sleeping passengers, with women travellers being frequent victims. The group would steal jewellery, cash and mobile phones during their travels, often striking multiple times during a single train journey.

Police recovered gold and silver ornaments along with cash from the suspects during the arrest operation. Investigators have seized jewellery and currency believed to have been stolen from numerous victims across various train routes.

The GRP is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the gang's complete network of operations, including identifying all members involved and tracing additional victims. Authorities are also examining whether the group had accomplices or connections with criminal networks operating on other routes. The case highlights the vulnerability of train passengers to organised theft gangs operating with sophisticated coordination across multiple services.
