A family in Navsari, Gujarat, participated in a Hindu religious ceremony on Dusseshtami to formally return to Hinduism, according to event organizers. The ceremony, known as Panchkundi Gayatri Mahayajna, was conducted to facilitate the family's reconversion after they had adopted another faith two decades earlier.
According to Ashwin Barot, who organized the event, the family originally migrated from Uttar Pradesh and was induced to convert through inducements including housing and employment opportunities. Barot alleged that the conversions had occurred under coercive circumstances, utilizing economic incentives to persuade the family away from their original religion.
Beyond this single family's reconversion, Barot claimed that approximately 29 additional families have expressed their desire to return to Hinduism. The organizer further stated that around 3,000 to 4,000 people have signaled their intention to reconvert, though specific details regarding the timeline and circumstances of these cases remain unclear.
The event reflects ongoing religious dynamics in parts of India where questions of conversion and reconversion continue to generate significant attention. The Navsari ceremony underscores the persistent efforts by certain Hindu organizations to facilitate the return of individuals to Hinduism after interfaith conversions.
