Farmers and agricultural laborers converged in Muzzafarnagar on Monday evening for a major night assembly organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), marking the organization's first such large-scale nocturnal gathering in the district. The assembly brought together representatives from surrounding villages to discuss pressing grievances affecting the agricultural community in the region.
Sugarcane pricing emerged as a central concern during the proceedings, with participants demanding better rates for the crop. The assembly also focused on electricity tariffs and access to reliable power supply, longstanding issues that have impacted farming operations across Uttar Pradesh. Representatives highlighted the need for sustained policy interventions to ease the financial burden on farmers.
Minimum support price (MSP) guarantees and the revision of circle rates for agricultural land dominated further discussions. Farmers called for stronger legal frameworks to protect MSP announcements and prevent crop losses, while also seeking clarity on land valuation policies that affect property transactions and agricultural holdings.
