Farmers gathered outside the Ecotech Extn branch of Punjab National Bank in Greater Noida to voice their grievances over a case involving the alleged embezzlement of crores of rupees. Farm leader Brijesh Bhati told reporters that account holders were facing considerable hardship, particularly with festivals approaching, and demanded immediate restitution of all deposited funds.
Bhati called for strict action against the bank employees allegedly responsible for the financial irregularities. "Depositors should not suffer due to the negligence or misconduct of bank officials," he said during the demonstration, which saw protesters briefly entering the bank premises.
According to police, funds belonging to 16 account holders have already been recovered and returned. The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting a parallel probe into the matter. Punjab National Bank officials stated that the institution is committed to reimbursing affected customers along with accrued interest, though a timeline for full resolution remains unclear.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about financial safeguards at bank branches across the region and has renewed calls for stricter regulatory oversight of public sector banking institutions.
