LUCENA CITY — Two family members were shot dead in Catanauan, Quezon on Saturday in what police believe was a violent escalation of a long-running land dispute, authorities said Sunday.
The Calabarzon police regional office reported that a 37-year-old man and his father were killed during the confrontation, which investigators traced to unresolved tensions over property rights that had festered for years between the families involved.
According to police accounts, the suspect allegedly initiated contact with the younger victim to confront him over the historical land disagreement that had previously involved the victim's father. The encounter turned fatal when shots were fired.
The incident marks another case of property-related violence in the region, where disputes over land ownership frequently escalate into armed conflict. Calabarzon police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity of the suspect.
