Law enforcement officials in Telangana have arrested a father-and-son duo in connection with an extensive illegal drug cultivation operation discovered in Nagolkonda village under Jainoor police jurisdiction. The pair had allegedly converted a 10-acre plot registered as a cotton farm into a clandestine cannabis growing facility, with investigators estimating the contraband's market value at Rs 1.5 crore.
The operation came to light following a raid on the property, during which police seized the mature cannabis plants and related cultivation equipment. The suspects had reportedly used the legitimate cotton farming registration as a cover for their illicit activities, allowing them to operate the facility without attracting official scrutiny.
The arrests mark part of ongoing efforts by Telangana Police to crack down on drug cultivation networks in the state. Authorities have indicated that further investigations are underway to determine whether the operation had links to wider distribution networks and to identify potential accomplices in the alleged enterprise.
The accused have been taken into custody and are expected to face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement agencies face in monitoring agricultural land for illegal drug cultivation activities across rural Telangana.
