FBI probes major cyberattack on recruitment site; 2TB of data allegedly stolen

The FBI has launched an investigation into a cyberattack targeting its primary job recruitment website following claims by a hacking group known as ShinyHunters that they successfully accessed and exfiltrated vast quantities of confidential information. According to the group's assertion, the breach compromised personal data related to both current FBI employees and job applicants.

ShinyHunters alleged that the intrusion was facilitated through a vulnerability in Oracle's PeopleSoft system, commonly used by large organizations for human resources and payroll management. The group claims to have obtained approximately 2 terabytes of data from the platform, representing one of the more significant breaches of a U.S. federal agency's systems in recent years.

Cybersecurity analysts have raised concerns about the implications of such a large-scale data compromise. If the stolen information enters circulation on the dark web or other underground forums, experts warn that individuals whose data was captured could face heightened risks of identity theft, targeted phishing attacks, and other forms of exploitation over an extended period.
