The Maligakanda Magistrate's Court issued notice on the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to appear before the court on October 12, in relation to the bail application filed by Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The anticipatory bail petition arises from an ongoing investigation into the financial affairs of the former First Lady. The court's directive requires FCID officials to present their position on the application, which seeks to protect Rajapaksa from arrest in connection with the inquiry.

Anticipatory bail applications are typically filed by individuals who apprehend possible arrest and seek pre-emptive court protection against such action. The October 12 hearing will determine whether the court grants the requested relief or allows the investigation to proceed without such restrictions.

The case underscores ongoing legal proceedings involving members of the Rajapaksa family, whose financial dealings have faced heightened scrutiny in recent years. The hearing date provides both the defence and investigating authorities an opportunity to present their respective arguments before the magistrate.
