FCID seizes vehicle linked to Kotawila Police chief inspector

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has seized a Honda Vezel motor vehicle reportedly registered to Chief Inspector Varuni Bogahawatte, who holds the position of Officer-in-Charge of the Administration Division at Kotawila Police Station.

The vehicle was taken into FCID custody as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities. Reports indicate the seizure was authorised following information received concerning undeclared income or assets linked to the officer.

Chief Inspector Bogahawatte has served in the Sri Lanka Police Force for an extended period and holds administrative responsibilities at the Kotawila station. The FCID investigation represents part of broader financial crimes operations conducted by the CID.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division, established to probe economic offences within law enforcement and government agencies, has intensified scrutiny in recent months. Officials have not issued formal statements regarding the specific allegations or the expected duration of the investigation.

The seizure has not resulted in formal charges to date. The vehicle remains in FCID custody pending completion of the investigation.
