The Food and Drug Administration in Maharashtra conducted simultaneous raids across five districts within the Pune division as part of a targeted crackdown on edible oil producers and traders. The multi-location operation, led by FDA official Tukaram Mundhe, revealed systematic deficiencies in quality control and regulatory compliance across the sector.

Inspectors identified recurring violations during the raids, including suspected substandard product quality, non-functional or absent laboratory facilities, and inadequate staffing of qualified chemists. Many facilities were found to have improper or misleading packaging and labeling, while several operators lacked valid licenses or held expired certifications.

The operation underscores growing concerns among food safety regulators about oversight gaps in the edible oil supply chain. The FDA has indicated that establishments found to be operating below prescribed standards face potential suspension of licenses and legal action.

The findings are expected to trigger follow-up inspections and enforcement measures to ensure compliance with food safety standards. Traders and manufacturers have been directed to rectify deficiencies and submit compliance reports within specified timeframes to avoid further action.
