The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) successfully intercepted a consignment of banned tobacco products following an extended surveillance operation that lasted six hours, resulting in the confiscation of merchandise valued at more than Rs 1 crore.
The enforcement action culminated at Chakan-Talegaon Chowk, where FDA officials halted the truck carrying the contraband items. The seized goods included gutkha, pan masala products and flavoured tobacco variants, all of which fall under prohibited categories under Indian tobacco regulations.
According to FDA officials, the operation was conducted based on confidential information that enabled authorities to identify and track the vehicle throughout its journey. The tip-off proved instrumental in coordinating the interception and preventing the distribution of the banned products across regional markets.
The vehicle has been secured as part of the enforcement action. The seizure underscores ongoing regulatory efforts by the FDA to curtail the circulation of prohibited tobacco and tobacco-related products in the region, which have been linked to significant public health concerns.
