Federal Bank's Q2 profit surges 45% on strong loan growth, margin expansion

Federal Bank reported a significant improvement in financial performance for the quarter ended September 2026, with net profit jumping 45% year-on-year to ₹1,386 crore. The Kochi-based private sector lender attributed the strong showing to healthy loan growth and operational efficiency gains across its retail and corporate segments.

Net interest income, the difference between what banks earn from loans and pay on deposits, rose 26.4% during the quarter. The improvement was accompanied by a net interest margin expansion of 26 basis points, indicating the bank's improved pricing power and asset-liability management. Gross advances crossed the ₹3 trillion milestone, reflecting sustained momentum in the bank's core lending business.

Asset quality metrics also showed marked improvement, suggesting better credit risk management and loan recovery efforts. The bank's focus on diversified advances and customer acquisition across geographies appears to be yielding results amid a competitive lending environment.

The quarter's performance underscores Federal Bank's strategy to leverage technology and branch expansion to capture market share in retail and small business segments. The bank continues to benefit from the strong credit demand cycle in India and its established presence across southern and western India.
