FedEx announced plans to invest approximately $150 million (over Rs 1,400 crore) to establish an integrated air cargo hub at Delhi's primary airport, marking a significant commitment to India's logistics infrastructure. The groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday at GMR Cargo City within Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), with Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu in attendance.
The facility, spanning 230,000 square feet, is designed to substantially enhance cargo processing capabilities at the hub. Upon becoming operational, the facility will increase package handling capacity from the current 600 units per hour to 5,000 packages per hour, with scope for further expansion to meet growing demand.
Civil Aviation Minister Naidu highlighted India's strategic importance in global air cargo movements during the event. The new hub is expected to strengthen connectivity between northern and eastern India with international markets, enabling regional businesses to access global supply chains more efficiently.
The cargo facility represents FedEx's continued investment in India's logistics sector, reinforcing the company's commitment to supporting the country's air freight infrastructure at a time when e-commerce and international trade are driving increased demand for express courier services.
