CHUKAI, Oct 23 — A female tapir was found dead along the East Coast Expressway (LPT2) near Kijal following what is suspected to be a collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The discovery marks another wildlife casualty on the busy highway corridor that connects major towns across Terengganu and neighbouring states. Road fatalities involving large animals have become an increasing concern for wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
Local authorities and wildlife officials attended the scene to document the incident and assess the circumstances surrounding the animal's death. The tapir's carcass was subsequently removed from the roadway.
The incident underscores ongoing safety concerns for wildlife populations that inhabit areas adjacent to major transportation routes. Motorists have been urged to exercise caution, particularly during dawn and dusk hours when large animals are more active and visibility is reduced.
Wildlife authorities continue to investigate the collision and gather information from potential witnesses or drivers who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
