ISTANBUL — Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal tendered his resignation on Thursday following his team's 1-1 draw against Roma in their return to European club football's premier competition.
The announcement came shortly after the match in Istanbul, with Kartal stepping down after the result in what marked Fenerbahce's comeback to the Champions League. However, the coaching change proved short-lived.
Club president intervened within minutes of the resignation announcement, informing Kartal that he would retain his position. The swift reversal prevented any managerial disruption at the Turkish Super Lig side.
The drawn result against the Italian capital club kept Fenerbahce in contention in the group stage, though both teams shared the spoils in a competitive encounter.
